We are kicking off into spring 2026! It has been a long winter in our neck of the woods in Terrebonne-Mascouche, and most of us can’t wait to get outside and get our lawn progressing towards full beauty for the summer. However, it is important to not be too hasty. Before we start walking all over our lawn picking up branches and raking the leaves, we need to wait until the lawn has no more overnight frost and that the puddles of melted snow or spring rain have dried up completely. Once we see that everything is dry, then we can proceed with cleaning up dead leaves and old grass from last year and clearing our lawn of other debris so that we can get ready to fertilize.

Spring Fertilizer:
Before we start to fertilize our lawn we must wait until the temperature is fairly warm, usually towards the end of April or early May. It is important to apply small doses of fertilizer, we recommend only 3lbs per 1000 square feet. It is optimal to apply three applications every three weeks in the spring and once a month in the fall. If possible, try to apply the fertilizer just before a rainfall of about 10 to 15ml. Keep in mind that once a year we should apply lime in early spring or in the fall, (September or October). You can do this at the same time as you are applying your fall fertilizer as the lime and fertilizer compliment one another.

Water Application: Watering our lawn is important especially when the weather gets hot, ideally twice a week. You should be applying about one inch of water to all parts of your lawn. A helpful tool is to place a glass on your lawn where the sprinkler is activated, once you see an inch of water in your glass you can then move your sprinkler to another location or if you have sprinklers throughout your entire lawn, then you can shut them down for that application. Wishing you an amazing start to spring & summer 2026. If you have any questions please make sure to reach out to our team at Gazonnière Alexander, we’re happy to help!
